How Yoga Teachers can Overcome Imposter Syndrome

Is there anyone left in the world who's unfamiliar with the term imposter syndrome?

That inner critic that says you're not ready, you are not worthy, you're not good enough.

Building self-confidence to trust your expertise is key to avoid getting caught up in "they love me they hate me" mind games.

The truth is that people are going to slap post-it notes on you anyways.

As a new yoga teacher, I would get drawn to the student who had the sternest expression. My head would be full of how much they hated my lesson. Meanwhile appearing calm and trying to lead the class. It was exhausting!

Oftentimes, they were in deep concentration or sometimes my teaching style really wasn't for them.

Beyond being yoga professionals we can't control what people think of us or our teaching style. If your class isn't to someone's liking as disappointing as that may be it shouldn't leave you feeling crushed.

The illuminate mentor group has been discussing what creates Confidence.

Confidence is a blend of having competence - our ability to actually succeed at the task. And self-belief - our internal perception of our abilities.

Investing in multiple certifications could be enhancing your knowledge or does it come from a lack of trust in your skills?

What does having confidence as a yoga teacher mean to you?

When do you feel most confident as a teacher?

Has your confidence ever gone awry? What did you do to overcome it?

How many years have you been teaching?

How many hours of certifications?

How many hours of actual teaching?

What gives you energy when you teach?

What makes you feel drained?
