Tips to Move Daily~ in 10 minutes or less

Research shows that body position and posture can affect our energy levels and mood.

Breathing and flowing through yoga poses is very potent as mood boosters. If you already practice yoga do you notice a shift in your mood after savasana, the relaxation period? Sometimes described as post yoga bliss!

Good posture and the ability to breathe well are fundamental to energy, mood and clarity.

Even when you can’t get to a yoga class there are ways to bring elements of yoga practice into your daily life. In fact, moving daily is essential for our bodymind wellbeing.

Sometimes people think that moving and exercise is only worthwhile if it can be for a long duration but, little bursts of stretching and shaking things around every day is far more beneficial for your body and mind.

Let go of thinking of how long your yoga practice should be and focus on daily movement moments for nurturing and longevity.

I love to include movement snacks into my day. Even as a yoga teacher, I spend a lot of time sitting in front of devices, hunching over a steering wheel ...Repeating a few shapes over and again.

Here are a few suggestions to move your body in less than 10 minutes:

1. Solo dancing –put on your favourite tune and shake your booty!

2. Salute the sun – stretch out and greet the day with some yoga sun salutations.

3. Go outdoors – even getting off the bus early or a walk around the block will boost your circulation

4.Draw circles – working up the body gently circle the joints from the feet to your head

5. Put your feet up- This is a simple, effective yoga pose for calm at any time of day when you need a little time out.

How to: Lay on the floor close to a wall and stretch your legs up the wall. If you have tight hamstrings then shift hips a little further away from the wall. Not able to lay on the ground? Try laying on your sofa and stretch your legs up the wall
